Redecorating your bathroom is fun! Most of us love picking out designs, colours, tiles, showers, etc.
We’re not here to dictate to you how to decorate your bathroom. That’s a matter of taste. Instead, we’re going to give you a few pointers to help make sure you design it well. These are things that people often overlook, but which can cause problems in the end.
Anti-Mould/Anti-Damp Paint
Bathrooms are damp and warm. This makes them ideal as breeding grounds for certain types of mould and mildew. Aside from ventilation, you can buy specialist paint with anti-mould and anti-damp properties. These do not provide a definitive solution to mould, damp and mildew, but they do confer greater protection than normal types of paint.
Towel Radiators
Another thing that tends to contribute to damp and mould are wet towels. If you find that your towels smell relatively quickly after you have taken them out of the wash, then the chances are that you don’t have a proper place to dry them. You can solve this by buying a towel radiator. Steel, aluminium or chrome towel radiators are the best choice. People can be tempted to buy white towel radiators, but they conduct less heat than the steel, aluminium or chrome towel radiators, and as such, don’t provide enough heat output to warm the room and to dry the towels. You need a reflective radiator if you want to dry your towels.
Swinging Shower Door
Some people are tempted to buy shower doors that are fixed in place. This is usually because they look better. However, if the shower door is over a bath, you should install a moveable door. This makes it much easier to clean, because you can push the door over the bath to clean the outside. A door that doesn’t move causes more mess when you clean it, because the water drips onto the floor and not the bath.
